Position Summary

Embry Health is seeking to hire a Medical Lab Director who can join our amazing team and fast-growing enterprise to lead and grow our clinical laboratory functions and team towards the future. The Medical Lab Director is responsible for the overall operation and administration of the laboratory including the employment of personnel who are competent to perform test procedures, record and report test results promptly, accurately, and proficiently and assuring compliance with all applicable regulations. The Laboratory Director is a candidate who qualifies as a Clinical Laboratory Director by State, Federal, and Accreditation agencies.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the overall operation, administration, and technical oversight of the laboratory
  • Provide training and guidance to personnel, and record and report procedural outcomes promptly, accurately, and proficiently
  • Shall be named on the licensing, accreditation certificate, and documents of the laboratory
  • Relate and function professionally and effectively with other members of the medical and clinic staff, accrediting and regulatory agencies, administrative officials, laboratory staff, and the patient population served
  • Set standards of performance in the clinical laboratory for quality control processes, quality improvement, clinical success and cost-effectiveness
  • Responsible for formulating laboratory policies and protocols
  • Ensure that testing methods are scientifically valid and clinically relevant
  • Monitor all work performed in the laboratory to determine timely and medically reliable data are being generated and appropriately reported
  • Implement a quality assurance program for the laboratory services in conjunction with the Quality Committee that corrective actions are taken, documented, and reviewed for effectiveness whenever failures in quality are identified
  • Ensure that all lab personnel receive appropriate training for the laboratory procedures to be performed
  • Direct the selection of all equipment, methods, and reagents appropriate to the scope of testing and the financial constraints on the laboratory or institution
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of laboratory results and communication of laboratory data.
  • Coordinate, supervise and be present for the periodic, on-site inspection of the laboratory as required by the Commission of Laboratory Accreditation and other appropriate regulatory agencies

Qualifications:

  • Licensed MD/DO/DPM and Certified in clinical pathology or anatomic and clinical pathology by the American Board of Pathology or minimum 2 years directing or supervising high complexity testing.
  • Doctoral degree in laboratory science AND currently certified by an HHS-approved board.
  • Possess a current license as a laboratory director issued by the state of Arizona
  • Must be computer literate with the ability to enter information in EMR system
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English

Education and Experience:

  • Training and relevant experience in high complexity testing of Immunology, Chemistry, Hematology and Microbiology required
  • Eight (8) years relevant experience including at least three (3) years of supervisory / management experience of multiple laboratory sections
